DESCRIPTION OF THERAPIES
CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
"CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on method of evaluating and releasing
restrictions around the brain and spinal cord so your body can self-correct and free itself
of pain and other health conditions."
The client remains fully clothed and (usually) lies face up on the table while the
therapist gently holds a part or parts of the body so that it can make these corrections.
Many conditions and symptoms will respond favorably to CST.
SomatoEmotional Release (SER)
SomatoEmotional Release is an advanced form of CranioSacral Therapy. There is often an
emotion (anger, fear, etc.) that was present when the injury or trauma first occurred.
That emotion may still be held in the area of injury and keeps the tissues from releasing
the injury completely. SER can free the tissue of the destructive emotions and allow it to
fully heal. SER is not talk therapy and is not a replacement for counseling. It does work
well with counseling if that is needed.
Visceral Manipulation (VM)
The organs are designed to be able to move in harmony with the rest of the body. When
something occurs to prevent them from being able to slide and glide over each other, abnormal
tension results. This tension can affect the organ's function itself and/or its relation to
its surrounding structures. Imagine trying to bend over to touch your toes if your liver was
unable to slide forward. This could prevent you from bending over as far as you might have
otherwise and could lead to a misdiagnosis of a problem in the way that the spine moves.
Visceral Manipulation is a gentle therapy that frees restrictions around the organs.
Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT)
Lymph Drainage Therapy is a light-touch therapy that enhances the function of the lymphatic
system to aid in detoxification, immune function, fluid circulation and more.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
Myofascial release is a technique for stretching and releasing the tissue
(fascia) that
connects every part of the body. This tissue can become "stuck" due to injury, postural
problems, overuse, under-use, etc. When it is stuck, it can cause pain and/or reduce the
natural range of motion. Freeing it can restore natural balance in your body.
Although it is a bit more aggressive than CranioSacral Therapy, it is still gentle and
works with your body.
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and Positional Release
Muscle Energy Technique and positional releases use the sensors that are in your muscles
that tell the muscle how short or tense it should be. Sometimes these sensors are set
incorrectly due to injury, posture, etc. and do not allow the muscle to assume its natural
resting length. This can cause pain and dysfunction. Using these techniques, the sensors
can be reset and your muscle can relax more naturally.
Massage Therapy
There are many forms of massage; some are much more effective than others. Many people
believe that unless massage hurts, it isn't doing much good. Just the opposite is true.
Your body will tense in reaction to pain. This can educate the muscle to remain in an
unnaturally tense state rather than to relax to its full resting length.
Massage can enhance circulation and relax the body in a very pleasant and healthful way.
